Using your Psychology degree to become an Aide to Elders
If you have an interest in working with elders, consider using your Psychology degree to be an aide to elders. Remember, however, that elders may be disabled, chronically ill, or cognitively impaired--they need a lot of assistance. This might involve helping individuals with self-care and everyday tasks (e.g., assisting with walking, and helping with bathing, dressing, and grooming), and providing companionship. In some states, such aides may be able to give a client medication or check the client’s vital signs under the direction of a nurse or other healthcare practitioner.
